IN DETAIL:
The fur from weasels, also called ermine, is highly prized as it was the status quo fur for royalty along with the most sought-after fur for court presentations and official portraiture. For centuries, ermine fur has been used as trim on parkas and on other clothing though European monarchs used ermine and art as a projection of power and wealth from the onset of their reign.

Well known for its elegance and sophistication, a weasel fur is composed of short, soft under fur covered by shiny guard hair. The color may vary though usually is a golden brown shading to dark brown.

Weasels are usually cinnamon brown with white or yellowish under parts. In winter, the coats of weasels living in cold regions turn white. Long-tailed weasels have a black tip to their tail, even in their all white winter phase. The kolinsky, also called the Siberian weasel, is also much valued for its fur. The tail hairs are used to make artists’ paintbrushes.
